A bit of background…

Claygate Village Youth Association is a registered charity and has been a presence in Claygate for many years, and for a long time worked in collaboration with Surrey County Council (SCC).  That all changed in 2015 when SCC announced it would no longer be funding the youth club and paid youth workers were made redundant. Until that point the Youth Club was held three nights a week.  The situation was alarming as it looked as though the young people of Claygate would no longer have a youth club. A meeting was called by a group of concerned local people and a steering group was formed from that group.

The steering group drew up a plan of action lead by John White, the Youth Minister at Holy Trinity Church. It was decided that volunteers would provide a Youth Club one evening a week to start with and that began in April 2016. Sadly John White moved away from Claygate in the summer of 2016 after a very successful few months building up the youth club with the help of many volunteers. Happily Jamie Blake stepped in as youth leader. Jamie had previously been a general volunteer at the club and long term resident of Claygate. Jamie worked works alongside a growing team of amazing volunteers, all residents of Claygate. The youth club has grown from 11 members in April 2016 to an average of 35 as of February 2017.

Jamie left in May 2019 and the club is now lead by long term volunteer Andy Clifton.

What we do…

We open every Thursday evening from 7 pm to 9 pm and like to start the evening off with serving pizza to all who want it!  The rest of the evening offers a wide range of activities such as football, basketball, pool, air hockey, table tennis, art and craft, drama workshops and much more. We have a great team of volunteers who offer many skills to share with young people. Other services which are available at the club  include a tuck shop, computers and printer for homework, D.J. nights as well as support and advice if needed. Young people can also just chill out and chat with friends.

We are always open to suggestions or advice on activities or events, so please feel free to suggest ideas.
